Maggie - Bilateral Elbow Dysplasia

Image of Dog & Cat

Description: At 5 months old Maggie was diagnosed with bilateral elbow dysplasia- OCD and FCP. She had bilateral arthroscopy with fragment removal and debridement of cartilage at 7 months of age. She had areas where there was no cartilage left in the joint, kissing lesions and fibrillating cartilage. We received a very poor prognosis- by age 2 she would need total elbow replacements or be euthanized. She did 6 weeks of rehab prior to stem cell therapy. Comments: Post recovery and rehab, Maggie had no signs of limping or pain. I decided to proceed with stem cell injections even though she was not symptomatic. Just before her 1st birthday, Maggie had stem cell harvest and injection of stem cells and PRP in both elbows. Three months later she had another injection, and 7 months after that she had another injection. Maggie is now 2 years old and we have not seen her limp or appear to have pain. Although we do restrict her from activities like fetch, jumping, and the zoomies, she lives a very full life. We walk 2 miles a day, she is working toward her novice scent work title, and lives on a small farm where she does occasionally get a little wild playing with her horse friend. It is very difficult to keep a 2 year old Rottweiler from getting too excited and running wild. It is our firm belief that Maggie would not be the same without stem cell therapy and we believe in doing it prophylactically, why wait until she's symptomatic when we already know she has arthritis.
