Vet Services Laboratory Technician I

Description

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for assisting in the coordination and execution of tissue/cell processing operations within a cGTP (current Good Tissue Practices) compliant laboratory. Emphasis is on primary cell isolation and cell culture in an aseptic processing environment. This is a unique opportunity to support the isolation and manufacturing of autologous mesenchymal stem cells for veterinary clinical use. The candidate would be responsible for following the standardized written practices in accordance with the requirements for the manufacturing of materials.

Requirements

Essential Responsibilities:

Process multiple patient adipose samples and prepare product for final shipment.
Recover cryopreserved product and prepare for final product shipment.
Adhere to documented procedures, data recording practices, and managing electronic and paper records, etc.
Assists with preparation processes, reagents, medium and other solutions.
Inform Supervisor of equipment needs and supplies required to avoid interruption of daily processes.
Conduct ancillary activities in support of laboratory operations and processing functions, e.g. lab and equipment cleaning and maintenance, restocking, preparing shipping/packaging materials, etc.
Work within the structure of a QMS and CRM.
Perform other routine processes as needed (e.g. freezing cryopreservation of cell products, product storage transfer, label making, batch record preparation and review)
Occasionally assists in qualification processes.
Ability to work weekends occasionally or as requested.

Job Requirements:

BS degree in life sciences or a related area specialty and 0-2 years’ experience in the field or equivalent experience.
Ability to perform aseptic techniques in a controlled laboratory environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and a high level of attention to detail are required.
Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures, perform work accurately under stringent deadlines and with minimal supervision.
Capable of mastering processing protocols and related requirements to a level that requires no daily supervision within 6 weeks.
Proficient experience with computer software programs, including Excel, Word, and Adobe.
Experience using with basic laboratory equipment (e.g., balance, autoclave, centrifuge, biological safety cabinet).
Understanding cell counting techniques and ability to perform calculations pertaining to cell counts.
Ability to understand mathematical calculations pertaining to various cell culture applications (e.g., seeding density, yield per centimeter squared, cells per gram).
Maintains a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability, efficiency, on-time delivery, and customer service.
Applicant must be able to work efficiently and independently, as well as on a team.
Ability to mince adipose tissue with scissors for up to 30 minutes per day
Ability to lift 25 Lbs routinely and 50 Lbs occasionally.
Ability to sit for up to 8 hours per day, up to 4 hours at a time

Salary Range $48,000 - $58,240
